Labor Singing Support
The dance of childbirth can be eased by supportive song*
My first birth was a high hormone haze of surrender. The second time around, I was shocked to be so awake and alert. Without the hormone medicine, I didn’t want to knowingly give in to the intensity I knew was coming. Singing to myself moved me toward acceptance and brought back my stalling contractions, “I know this rose will open. I know my fears will burn away. I know this soul will unfurl its wings. I know this rose will open.”
If you would like to invite singing to your birth, I come to you at home or birth center and sing simple wisdom songs to support your laboring. We can sing together between contractions if wanted. I bring a few simple soothing instruments as well. At least one session before labor begins is recommended to make sure it’s a good fit, choose favorite songs, and get comfortable with the sounds that best support birth. Follow up sessions can support postpartum mental health, bonding, and baby soothing.
I am a certified childbirth educator and vocal coach, as well as a mother of three (two birth center births, one in water)
$120 - one hour session, tax and resources included

“The singing would measure the length of the contraction. I would sing one verse and it would all be OK, the peak of the contraction would fade. It helped me manage the time and the fear,”
-Elena
"When a person opens their throat and her mouth and vocalizes, sings, chants, tones or hums during labor, it helps to keep their bottom and perineum loose and relaxed. 'Loose lips, loose perineum,' I believe that whole-heartedly,"
-Sharon
"Let my child be born (Let myself be born) I think it was when I started singing this song that my labor transformed. I no longer experienced contractions as a sharp pain, I no longer held on to my intellect and rationality,"
-Marissa
"Low-pitched sounds helped me feel that the contraction is my baby giving me a big hug instead of a pain I am fighting against".
-Leandra
